Council launch Business Recovery Plan

Rossendale Borough Council, along with local business leaders, have developed a business recovery plan to help the local economy navigate its way out of pandemic and lockdowns. 

The impact of COVID-19 on local areas in 2020/2021 has been significant and authorities like Rossendale have borne the brunt of this impact. 

Alyson Barnes, Council Leader, said: “We have been faced with many challenges brought on by this pandemic and these challenges are going to affect businesses everywhere – not just in Rossendale – well into 2021 and beyond.

High praise for Council’s Economic Development and Property Team

AN EXTERNAL assessment of Rossendale Council’s Economic Development and Property Team concluded it delivers a strong return on investment.

For every £1 invested by the council, the report says the return is ‘considerable’, particularly regarding the successes of employability project Rossendale Works and the team’s ability to generate new employment and safeguard existing jobs.

Rossendale’s Day of Reflection

Rossendale Borough Council are joining other local councils across the country in inviting residents to take part in a National Day of Reflection on Tuesday 23rd March marking the first anniversary of the pandemic lockdown. 

A minute’s silence will be held across the UK at noon, while at 8pm people are being asked to light up their doorsteps with torches, candles and mobile phones.

Council seeks residents feedback

Rossendale Borough Council are asking residents for their feedback and ideas about what they would like to see in the programme of works that the council will deliver in 2021/22 

Each year the Overview and Scrutiny Committee considers and selects suitable topics for inclusion in the annual work programme. 

The committee’s aim is to add value to the work of the Council and produce worthwhile outcomes for local people.

Employment successes for Rossendale Youth Works

AFTER a four-week placement with a firm in Haslingden, Kierren Cramp so impressed bosses he landed himself a full-time job as a repair technician. 

Kierren, 20, from Bacup, now works for domestic appliance repair company E&S Services, on Grane Road, and is one of nine success stories from the new Rossendale Youth Works 

The Rossendale Council scheme, in partnership with Active Lancashire, is backed by funding from the Department of Work and Pensions and led by Andy Clark.

Rossendale Works provides opportunity for Bacup resident to help others

AFTER more than three years trying to get a job, Louise Gregory has landed on her feet doing what she does best, helping others to help themselves.

Louise, 55, from Bacup, left her last job because she suffers from a degenerative condition Ankylosing Spondylitis and having to stand in one position for a long time aggravated the symptoms.

The Old Town Hall in Rawtenstall to go purple in celebration of Census 2021

The Old Town Hall in Rawtenstall will join more than a hundred buildings and landmarks across England and Wales by lighting up purple to celebrate the upcoming census and its importance to communities.

The event is being organised by The Office for National Statistics (ONS) to raise awareness of census day on March 21, a survey that happens every ten years and gives a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales.

Tributes paid following death of respected councillor

Everyone at Rossendale Borough Council would like to pass on their condolences to the family and friends of Cllr Terry Haslam- Jones who died suddenly on 11 March.  

Terry was a well respected Councillor for Stacksteads Ward with close ties to the community he served and sat on many committees including the Bacup Community Partnership.

Businesses that offer close contact services, such as beauty salons, hairdressers etc, are invited to attend a free COVID19 secure business compliance webinar arranged for 16th March 2021 at 10am ahead of the scheduled reopening of these businesses on the 12th April.  

The webinar will provide support for these businesses by answering questions they may have and offer guidance and advice around complying with the COVID guidelines to keep everyone safe.

Civic Pride Rossendale appoint new Chair

Civic Pride Rossendale (CPR) have appointed a new Chair and Vice Chair after current incumbents Roger Grimshaw and Helen Thomas –Laight stepped down. 

Sue Shuttleworth has been appointed as Chair and Yvonne Malley as Vice Chair. Sue who has been a dedicated member of CPR for many years inspired, persuaded, nagged, and physically dug the ground of the site for the much-loved train on the roundabout which was named Rawtenstall Sue in her honour.
