Rossendale residents are in for a locomotive treat this week as the famous Flying Scotsman returns to the East Lancashire Railway as part of the Scotsman In Steam event.
The Flying Scotsman visited Rawtenstall in January this year, following its £4.2m restoration at Riley and Sons Ltd in Bury, to huge crowds. This time, in its traditional BR Brunswick Green livery the Scotsman is expected to bring in similar adoring crowds as it returns.
Cllr Andy MacNae, tourism lead, welcomed the event saying;
“To have a locomotive of such national significance right here in Rawtenstall is a huge coup for Rossendale and we’re delighted to see the event happening. It was such a great success last time and I anticipate it will be just as successful this time round.”
Hundreds of people will have the special opportunity to ride the Scotsman along the East Lancashire line for the duration of the event.
Rossendale is hugely honoured to have such a special locomotive return and the event will be a significant tourism boost for our local businesses and amenities. Recent tourism figured for Rossendale were announced showing fantastic improvement on previous years and events such as this will play a huge part in future growth statistics.
