Christmas in Rossendale is in full swing following light switch ons up and down the Valley.

Rawtenstall held their switch on event on Saturday November 26th with a vibrant and very busy town square Market. The town lights were switched on by Paralympic silver medallist Tom Hamer., to delight of the hundreds in the crowd. Rawtenstall Market made sure Santa was in attendance and marked the start of the popular Christmas Trail of children.

Bacup held their switch on event on Wednesday 7th December to great success. Children from St Mary’s and Northern primary Schools attended the lights switch on, together with their families, on Irwell Terrace, organised by members of the Rotary club.   Santa came in his sleigh and Stacksteads Band played carols.  The Mayor switched on the lights in the trees outside Woodcocks.

There was a festive Christmas Market from 4pm – 7pm on the market with lots of gift stalls and hot food and drink and a display of some of the fabulous  lanterns from Stacksteads Lantern Parade.  Stacksteads Band played also and the Fairy Godmother from Bacup Royal Court Theatre pantomime was there adding to the festive atmosphere.

Alison Wilkins, Housing and Regeneration Project Manager at Rossendale Council was pleased with the event;

“Bacup Christmas event was a lovely, festive family occasion.  It was great to see local children and Father Christmas help the Mayor switch the lights on and there was a great atmosphere on the market with lots of extra stalls and Stacksteads Band playing carols. “
