Haslingden Task Force is working on two key projects to support the continued development of the town.
Rossendale Borough Council has provided £100,000 of funding through the Task Force to provide a catalyst to develop regeneration initiatives in Haslingden.
£50,000 has been allocated to the Shop Front Improvement Scheme through which business owners in the town centre can apply for grants for 50% of the cost of improving their shop front, up to a maximum of £2000. Council officers are currently working with 7 shops on the scheme and a local architects firm has been employed to support businesses in developing plans and applying for planning permission where required. As well as improving the appearance of the shop front, the scheme aims to support businesses to restore and maintain traditional features of the shop fronts, in keeping with the heritage of the town.
Working with design company Osprey, Haslingden Task Force has developed a branding and website for the town with the strapline ‘Small Town Big Heart’. The website along with promotional materials including a town map and trail guide, will be launched in the Spring. A draft copy of the Haslingden map flyer is attached below.
The Task Force has been working with Lancashire County Council to improve the on street parking provision in the town to provide extra parking where possible and tighten up parking restrictions where it is unsafe to park. LCC have drawn up proposals which are currently out for consultation.
Haslingden Task Force has already completed a number of projects including new car parking signs, Installation of additional Christmas lights, clean up events including Clean for the Queen, hanging baskets installed on businesses and poles throughout the town, a pavement deep clean and chewing gum removal completed.
Cllr Alyson Barnes, Chair of the Task Force said;
“Things are really starting to happen now though the Task Force and by working together with businesses and community groups in Haslingden, we can really make a difference to the town.”
Haslingden Task Force was set up in 2014 to bring together people who are involved in services or activities in Haslingden to identify key regeneration issues affecting the town and potential projects or activities which could be delivered to help boost the economy.
