Rossendale Leisure Trust reports super school stats in its end of year report for the Rossendale School Sports Partnership.

The Leisure Trust continues to grow and the latest stats from the school sports partnership, run alongside the games organiser at Fearns School (Nathan Bibby), shows that it is now in England’s top 10 based on Schools Games Key Performance Indicators.

In 2016 the partnership delivered impressive amounts of sport and competition time, with some of the headline figures being;

  • 3852 hours of coaching to primary schools, it provided over 107,000 interactions through coaching sessions and events with Rossendale Primary School pupils.
  • 906 year 5/6 pupils passed the Bikeability Award last year, 402 pupils were trained in Play Leaders, 54 pupils attended the Gifted and Talented Academy and 112 Secondary School Pupils attending the Rossendale Leadership Academy.
  • 5277 pupils took part in competitions across Rossendale across 117 dates of competition.
  • 76 teachers attended high quality training in PE and School Sport. On top of this 89 members of primary school staff accessed official training in PE, Sport or Healthy Active Lifestyles.
  • 46 Young Ambassadors were trained from 23 different schools in Rossendale, to promote health and active lifestyles.
  • 24 new Change4Life Champions were trained up, alongside 12 members of staff from different schools in Rossendale, all to run Chnage4Life Clubs, promoting healthy and active lifestyle.

All this work is hugely pleasing to Ken Masser, General Manager at Rossendale Leisure Trust;

The programme reaches every child in every school and is one of the very best in the country. It probably one of our best kept secrets. I am proud of what it has achieved and I’m sure parents and the community will be pleased to know what fantastic provision we have around sport in schools and competitions.”

Cllr Barnes, Leader of Rossendale Borough Council and Portfolio Holder for Leisure,   welcalyson-barnes-1omed the success of the leisure trust in this work with schools;

This is a fantastic achievement by the Leisure Trust and something they should be very proud of. It is essential we get the right health and wellbeing messages to young children as they grow up. The opportunities the Leisure Trust has provided to our young people really are first rate. I am really pleased to see the Trust grow and go from strength to strength.”
