A new computer generated image of what Bacup town centre could like in the future has been released.
The image shows what the proposed public realm improvement scheme for St James Square will look like from the view of a pedestrian.
The Bacup Townscape Heritage Initiative is a £2m investment in the town to restore its historic character.
As part of the funding, a public realm improvement scheme is necessary. People are invited to discuss the plan at a meeting on July 4 at the Corner Stone function room at the Pioneer Building.
Councillor Andy MacNae, chair of the THI board, said:
“This image shows how the proposals we have at the minute will look when implemented and I have to say it looks very exciting.
“Our vision is to make Bacup much friendlier for pedestrians and create a place where we can put on brilliant events which attract more people to the town.
“I believe the proposals we have at the moment are in the right direction but they can always be improved. We will continue to listen to what people say and try to get a set of proposals which people can get behind.
“We are already seeing the benefit of this scheme on the town with shop fronts refurbished and restored to their former glory. Shops are already telling us they have seen an increase in customers.
“The whole THI scheme is a very exciting project for the town centre which will help cement Bacup’s reputation as a historic market town and as an excellent place for people to shop and visit.”
