Three friends have found the perfect recipe to raise money for charity, by staging a 24 hour bake-a-thon.
Abigail Wrench, Becca Astin and Kirsty Lauder are holding the marathon cake making session at Abigail’s Burnley home in aid of Pendleside, Hospice.
The group plan to stream the 24 hour bake-a-thon live on Youtube and are also inviting people to drop by for a cuppa and a cake in aid of the charity.
Abigail, a legal officer for Rossendale Borough Council, whose hero is baking royalty Mary Berry, said the trio came up with the idea after Becca’s partner took part in a charity computer game marathon.
Both keen bakers they are preparing to cook up some of their favourites including rainbow cake, chocolate brownies and cupcakes, while friend Kirsty runs the social media marketing in a bid to raise donations.
They are donating the proceeds to the Burnley Hospice who Abigail has previously raised money for as she explains ‘we’ve all known someone unfortunately who has been supported by the hospice’.
In preparation for the bake-a-thon which will run from 8pm on Friday, August 4 to 8pm on Saturday, August 5, the group are planning to stock up on plenty of ingredients and estimate they will need around 169 eggs.
And they’re drafting in family and friends to help with moral support and the washing up.
“I’m getting a bit nervous about how we’re going to stay awake but our friends and family will be popping in to help us so I’m sure we’ll be ok”, added Abigail.
