Get ready to take a trip back in time at the Rossendale 60s Festival.
The valley wide festival with unique events in Rawtenstall, Bacup, Haslingden and Whitworth is aimed at attracting and exposing visitors to the beauty, heritage and culture of Rossendale.
This year’s festival that promises to be even bigger and better than before runs from September 8-10.
It launches at the Whitaker on Friday from 6.30pm with a specialist 60’s psychedelic soul DJ, spinning vinyl and Liam and Sarah of ‘Joan the Wad’ playing a live 60’s classic set.
And on Saturday also at the Whitaker from midday there’ll be a variety of far out events including live music, a 60’s DJ, 60s style make overs, an artisan market, a Flower power garden and Mini – Classic Car Display.
On Sunday from 1.30pm, there’ll be a book launch by author, Steve Millard who will be presenting his book “Changing times, music and politics in 1964” followed by the film The Italian Job with themed food available from 4.30pm.
Other events taking place across the valley include the popular 60’s themed shop window dressing Competition so be sure to look out for those taking part.
Bacup Market will be getting in the groove with a Bacup Bakeoff competition. Entries to be in by 10am for judging from 10.30am. £1 per entry going to Rossendale Responsible Animal Rescue
And Artisan in Rawtenstall will be holding an ‘Open Mic’ session in the afternoon, with a 60’s inspired band and DJ in the evening.
Also joining in the fun is the East Lancashire Railway that will be continuing the 60’s theme at their station in Rawtenstall, providing 60’s music on the trains and running their ‘Ales on the Rails’ event alongside the Festival.
While Bacup Cricket Club is hosting an event that has been organised specifically for the scooter fraternity with entry £2 complete with scooter ‘ride in’.
And the Boo Theatre in Waterfoot will be repeating their very popular ‘Baby Boogie’ experience. Think psychedelic fashion, flower power and rock and roll! Go along for an afternoon of disco fun with your babies and toddlers.
