Severe weather in Rossendale over the weekend

Rossendale was hit quite badly over the weekend with heavy rain and wind causing major disruption and flooding to residents and motorists.

In a statement, Councillor Alyson Barnes, Leader of Rossendale Council, said:

“Saturday was a tough night for people in Rossendale. Council staff worked with both Lancashire County Council, the Emergency Services, volunteers and the Environment Agency to try to limit the disruption. I want to thank them for their hard work in dreadful conditions to keep people safe. I am especially pleased to see, once again, the community rallying round to help. Neighbours helped neighbours and volunteers supported those in need. They did whatever was required of them, from moving furniture to fetching sandbags. The community spirit in Rossendale is fantastic.  They did the borough proud.

We will continue to support county as they clean up any storm debris. Many residents have contacted us about gulley cleaning. This is done by Lancashire County Council so we will raise the issue with them. But we have asked our road sweepers to go out and sweep up leaves. Rossendale Council also has lots of information on what to do if floods do occur and we have also set up a new Facebook page run by officers in our environment department which will be a new way of updating residents on issues including flooding.”

Rossendale Council is also helping residents in affected properties by removing flood damaged items.
