Councillor’s plea to public as authority clears fly-tipped waste

Rossendale Council’s Portfolio Holder for Operations has urged the public to report instances of fly-tipping in their neighbourhoods as soon as they see them.

Cllr Jackie Oakes visited Stacksteads on Tuesday, January 23 to talk to concerned residents about fly-tipping in the area, expressing her concern in a new video you can view below.

Cllr Oakes brought with her staff from the Council’s Environmental Services team who  cleared up a significant amount of waste around Herbert Street.

Councillor Oakes said:

I’ve been out to Herbert Street today with members of the Environment team to speak to the residents who have voiced their concerns. We have cleared a big pile of waste dumped there, which included a large commercial fridge, and swept the surrounding area. We have retrieved correspondence from the waste and will work hard to track down those responsible and prosecute them.

This is disgusting behaviour and we are trying our best with limited resources to tackle fly-tipping locally but we need people’s help. I would urge residents to report such issues to us as soon as they happen so that we can investigate and take the appropriate action. Contact us via Facebook or (01706) 217777 Option 3.
