The annual Bacup and Stacksteads carnival takes place on June 24 – with organisers promising that it will be a spectacular event.
The carnival parade starts at 11am at Broadclough Mills, Burnley Road, with floats and walkers making their way through Bacup before heading to Stubbylee and Moorlands Park.
Attractions in the park will include live music, dancing and stalls, with the event running until around 4pm.
Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival Organisation (BASCO) has organised the carnival since it was re-launched in 2010.
It has worked hard to raise the money needed to make sure that it can take place, and events have included a quiz night at the Rose ’n’ Bowl in Stacksteads and a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.
The carnival has also received grants from: Rossendale Council, Reaps Moss Community Fund, Community Foundations Lancashire and Merseyside, Neighbourhood Forum, Bacup Townscape Heritage Initiative, Winter Solicitors and Dansworks Dance Academy of Performing Arts.
BASCO chairman Catherine Smyth said:
This year we have had to find more money because we face increased costs, but the BASCO team has worked exceptionally hard to raise those funds and attract grants.
We are delighted to have more than 25 parade entries so far including from four schools.
Morrisons has donated £50 in vouchers to offset the carbon footprint of all of the vehicles in the procession, which have been given to Bacup Pride
Pat Smith, secretary of Bacup Pride, which is also holding a clean-up ahead of the carnival, said:
It is great that BASCO, Morrisons and Bacup Pride can work together in a way that benefits the whole town.
People who want to have a stall at the carnival or take part in the parade should contact info@basco.org.uk or leave a message on BASCO’s Facebook page.
