Council urges residents to have say on Government’s fracking proposal

Residents are being urged to take part in Government consultation on plans to allow exploratory fracking to go ahead without planning permission.

The proposals would designate exploratory drilling for shale gas as a new form of permitted development. This means that planning consent would not be required, taking the decision out of the hands of local authorities.

Councillor Christine Lamb, Rossendale Council’s portfolio holder for regulatory services, said:

It’s really important that residents have their say on this proposal.

As a council, we believe that it should be up to local communities to decide whether or not to allow fracking to take place in their areas.

The consultation closes at 11.45pm on October. Click here to take part.
