Trustees of a Rossendale community association are celebrating after signing a lease to officially take over the running of a local community centre.
The Whitewell Bottom Community Association has signed a 99-year lease for the Whitewell Bottom community centre, taking it off the hands of Lancashire County Council.
The process has been several years in the making, with the group producing a business plan and eventually being successful in completing a community asset transfer.
The centre will continue to be used by people of all ages, including the main tenants Whitewell Bottom Pre-School.
Amanda Robertson, Trustee of the Association, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that the lease transfer has finally been completed. We can now go full steam ahead with our plans to adapt the building to increase capacity for pre-school children and offer local groups meeting facilities at very reasonable rates.”
To celebrate the news the trustees are holding a celebration event at the centre on Saturday, November 10 from 2-4pm.
Several groups that use the facility will showcase their talents and residents are invited to come and show their support.
