Rossendale ready for Christmas as the borough lights up

Christmas lights are switching on all over Rossendale with family friendly fun for all.

In Rawtenstall, Saturday, November 24th will see the town’s lights switch on at the Christmas Clog Market on the Town Square.

The market will take place between 10am and 5pm with artisan stalls, brass band, community choir and food and drink, and the lights switch on takes place at 5pm. The festivities are supported by Rossendale Council. See www.theclogmarket.co.uk for more information.

Before the lights go on there will be a candle light procession from Kay Street Baptist Church.

In Bacup, there is a Christmas Market event on December 1st from 10am to 6pm, with the lights switch on taking place at 4.30pm at Irwell Terrace.

There will be entertainment, activities, fairground rides and more on Irwell Terrace from 10am, organised by Bacup Now community group and supported by Rossendale Council.

Across the borough, there are more Christmas lights and events:

  • Whitworth – Sunday, November 25th at 6pm at Riverside Civic Hall.
  • Haslingden –   Friday, November 30th outside the Library at 4pm along with the Christmas market.
  • Stacksteads School Street tree switch on – Sunday, December 9th
  • Stacksteads carol service Friday, December 21st 7pm Toll Bar Gardens
  • Turn Village – Friday, November 30th 4pm
  • Weir Village Sunday, December 2nd

For the first time in over 20 years Christmas lighting will return to Turn Village on the junction of Rochdale Road and Bleakholt Road with a newly illuminated Christmas tree along with Weir Village who have a newly illumined Christmas Tree for the first time ever on the junction of Burnley Road and Heald Lane.

Both community groups took advantage of the Rossendale Council match funding scheme for Christmas lighting to bring the Christmas plans to life.

Councillor Alyson Barnes, Leader of Rossendale Council, said:

“This is a fantastic Christmas programme put together by the Council and community groups, and is certainly one of the biggest I can remember. I can’t wait to see the great festive treats in store all over the borough and there is something for everyone in Rossendale.”
