Members of Parliament whose constituencies cover Rossendale, Bury and Heywood areas are set to receive a briefing about plans for a rail link to Rossendale at a special session next week.
Following a request by Rossendale Council, Rossendale and Darwen MP Jake Berry is hosting a reception for MPs at Westminster to discuss the rail link.
Councillor Alyson Barnes, leader of the council, chief executive Stuart Sugarman, and economic development manager Guy Darragh are going down to London to update MPs on work on the early strategic case for investment in rail infrastructure.
Councillor Barnes welcomed the session. She said:
“I am pleased we are able to put our case to MPs directly. We are undertaking a lot of work preparing the ground for a case to made for investment in a Rossendale rail link.
“We will be telling MPs that the rail link won’t just benefit our borough but will be good for the region as well. We know from other projects that there is a clear link between economic growth and infrastructure spending. I look forward to a very productive session and hope momentum continues to build for this essential project.”
