Men and women boxers joined up to support the White Ribbon Campaign.
A partnership between Rossendale Leisure Trust and Rossendale Borough Council promoted the campaign at local boxing clubs – Community Boxing Club in Rawtenstall, Pioneer Gym in Bacup and Boxing Bootcamp in Haslingden.
The core of the national White Ribbon campaign is ending violence against women and those signing up take the pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about men’s violence against women and girls.
The campaign works to challenge those male cultures that lead to harassment, abuse and violence. Volunteer ambassadors engage with other men and boys to call out such behaviour among their peers and promote a culture of equality and respect.
Councillor Barbara Ashworth, Cabinet Member for Health, Housing, Communities and Customer Service, said:
The White Ribbon Campaign is incredibly important in tackling violence towards women and girls and it really encourages people from all walks of life to come together and promote quality, respect and kindness.
It’s great to see the borough’s boxing clubs take this united stance, and it shows how inclusive and open they are. Violence towards women is never acceptable and these clubs are leading the way in spreading this message.”
