Consultation launched on dog control orders

Rossendale Council is asking for views on proposals to renew the borough’s dog control orders.

The consultation can be viewed here. It closes in April.

Councillor Jackie Oakes, portfolio holder for operations, said:

“We want to hear people’s views on this. Dog control orders are not something new. They have been around for a few years but we have to review them regularly.

There are a couple of extra orders we are looking at so we would really appreciate as many people as possible getting in touch.

We want everyone to enjoy our wonderful parks and public spaces. Most dog owners are responsible and dog walkers add to the variety of any park.

But unfortunately a minority of dog owners spoil it for everyone. These orders give us powers to tackle the selfish few who thoughtlessly do not control their dogs and inflict misery on others.

Dog fouling is a constant issue which residents are fed up of so the extra measures will look at giving us the powers to clamp down on owners who are not considerate. I want to stress though we are not anti-dogs.  These are sensible proposals that have worked previously and I suspect most dog owners will agree with anyway.”
