Community event brings fun to Bacup this weekend

It’s fun for all at the free Bacup Community Weekend with great traditional activities.

Taking place on Saturday, 25th May at the AB&D Centre, St John’s Church and on Irwell Terrace, and Sunday, 26th May at Stubbylee Park, hall and greenhouses, the event offers something for everyone with a big range of activities.

It is organised by Bacup THI (Townscape Heritage Initiative) and Bacup Now.

On Saturday, 25th May, there will be an artisan market on Bacup Market Square, an architectural tour of Bacup with an opportunity to ring the bell, a THI exhibition including the Irwell Tapestry in the AB&D Centre, and a mini food and drink court on Irwell Terrace including a selection of real ales.

There will also be an extended kid’s zone on Irwell Terrace including the Owls Trust, traditional fairground rides, amusements and a Punch and Judy show. You can also test your skills on the rodeo bull and there is a firefighters tug of war.

On Sunday, 26th May in Stubbylee Park, there will be horse driven carriage rides, a display of birds of prey, a magnificent shire horse, blacksmith and wood turning workshops, arts and crafts workshops and a traditional ice cream vendor.

There will also be the opportunity to explore the greenhouses and the park, and Stacksteads Band will be playing in the Rose Garden complete with traditional deck chairs. A tour of Stubbylee Hall will be available.
