The leader of Rossendale Council, Councillor Alyson Barnes, has paid tribute to emergency services after they battled a major fire in Haslingden.
The Council has been working closely with Lancashire Fire, Lancashire Police and Lancashire County Council as the emergency services deal with the fire at a building on Blackburn Road.
The fire has now been put out but work to secure the building and the make the area safe is continuing. The road is likely to be closed for the rest of the day. An investigation into how the fire started is also underway.
Council officers have been on site, working with the owners and have also been supporting businesses and residents affected by the fire.
Councillor Barnes said:
“I want to pay tribute to all involved for getting the fire under control so quickly. Once again our emergency services did us proud.
“The Council will work with our partners to deal with the aftermath of the fire and will work hard to get the area back to normal as soon as possible.
“We will continue to provide support to residents and businesses affected.”
