It’s time to show local heroes some love as Rossendale Council’s Community Awards open for nominations.

The new awards scheme aims to recognise those individuals and groups whose efforts have made a big impact in their local community.

Whether it’s a sports coach who gives up their evenings and weekends, someone special who lends a hand at a local charity, or a group that makes a real difference to where people live – they can all be nominated now.

Nominees will be invited to attend an official awards ceremony on Thursday, November 14 at the Riverside, Whitworth with a free buffet and entertainment.

There are six categories up for grabs including:

  • Community Partnership Community Group of the Year: one each for Whitworth, Bacup, Rawtenstall, Haslingden
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Outstanding Community Contribution to Valley Life – group or individual
  • Rossendale Leisure Trust – Sports Coach of the Year, Sports Club of the Year and Under 18 Sports Volunteer of the Year.

Leader of Rossendale Council, Cllr Alyson Barnes said:

It’s only right we recognise the many selfless people in Rossendale who give up their own time to make where we live the very best it can be.

I’ve been incredibly privileged to have met many volunteers and seen first-hand the amazing work they do. Most are very modest and don’t expect an award for what they do, but it’s really nice to recognise their efforts and share our appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

The Mayor of Rossendale, Cllr Barbara Ashworth, said:

We’re looking forward to honouring the many heroes from right across our borough through the Rossendale Community Awards.

Making a nomination only takes a few minutes. Do it now to help recognise the groups and volunteers who make a real difference to where you live or who support your loved ones.

Online nominations are now open here.  Paper nominations are also available from: communitiesteam@rossendalebc.gov.uk   / (01706) 252593
