A new breakfast club and drop in has been launched to engage and assist residents from the Bacup area to make a difference to their lives.
The Brew and Breakfast Club, based at Trinity Baptist Church on Market Street, Bacup, will be open every Thursday from 10-noon.
It is being organised by Rossendale Works and Rossendale Futures, employability projects set up by Rossendale Council and Active Lancashire and the Department of Work of Pensions
At the first meeting, partner agencies led round table discussions to consider local issues and ways the new club could try to tackle them.
Rossendale Works Project Manager Paul Becouarn said:
“The idea is to create a community hub working with other partners to offer services in the Bacup area.
“This is an area we know we need to have more of an impact on and the Brew and Breakfast Club will be a way for harder to reach people to get involved with the projects.
“Sessions will be held every week and we will be offering high and low impact activities to get people active as well as providing somewhere to chill and chat and get help so people can improve their lives.”
Trinity Baptist Church Minister the Rev Dave Barton said the church was already working towards the vision of becoming the ‘light on the hill that shines’.
He said:
“We were approached by Rossendale Works about hiring the premises for the club and as a church it is part of our vision to have our building used as a community hub for the community at large.”
Mayor of Rossendale Councillor Barbara Ashworth welcomed the development saying:
“I am well aware of the problems and issues within the community and it is not just a case of telling people to ‘get a job’ but about offering them the support they need.
“Having somewhere to come is the way forward and this room is brilliant.”
Councillor Jackie Oakes, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said:
“The innovative Rossendale Works programme has been a big success and has made a difference to people’s lives. We have some real success stories. Supporting people back into work is an important part of achieving our goal of building a more prosperous borough.”
Many partner organisations are involved in the club including the church, Calico, Emerging Futures, The Boo Theatre, Burnley Pendle and Rossendale Council for Voluntary Service, Rossendale and Hyndburn Citizens’ Advice, Change, Grow and Live, Christians Against Poverty and Red Rose Recovery.
