The Leader of the Council, Councillor Alyson Barnes has praised residents, emergency services, staff and volunteers for their efforts after heavy wind and rain hit the borough.

There were a number of flooding incidents as bad weather battered the borough. A major incident was declared across Lancashire.

Councillor Barnes said:

It’s been a tough weekend for people and the weather has caused a lot of disruption. Council staff worked with Lancashire County Council, the emergency services, volunteers and the Environment Agency to limit the disruption.

There were dreadful conditions to work in but everyone rallied round to keep people safe. I am especially pleased to see, once again, the community doing their bit. Neighbours helped neighbours and volunteers supported those in need. They did whatever was required of them, from moving furniture to fetching sandbags. The community spirit in Rossendale is fantastic.  They did the borough proud.

We will continue to support county as they clean up any storm debris. The weather is not going to be great for the next few days but we are ready and prepared. I urge people to keep an eye on their neighbours, especially vulnerable ones and make sure they are safe and well.

Keep an eye on the Council’s website for flood warnings and advice. Regular updates are also posted on our social media pages.
