Rossendale Council has praised a Bacup based business which has received Royal approval.

Orthoplastics has won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise, described as an MBE for businesses.

They were named in the International Trade category. The citation read:

“Orthoplastics is recognised globally as the leading materials supplier to the world’s orthopaedic device manufacturers.”

The Council is working with the company to develop a new site for the company on Plot 5 at Futures Park.

The new factory will bring up to 100 new jobs. Work started on building the factory last September.

Councillor Alyson Barnes, Leader of the Council, welcomed the award.

“We are in really tough times so it is always good to hear such positive news.

“I am very pleased that a Rossendale business has been recognised nationally.  They are a really innovative and enterprisingrpising company. We really do have some world class companies in the borough which form the basis of efforts to build a more prosperous Rossendale.

“Of course, It’s really challenging times for all our businesses at the moment and as a Council we are looking at supporting them as much as possible. “
