Newly released figures show how the Council has been delivering essential services, protecting the vulnerable and supporting businesses during the coronavirus crisis.

Figures for the period March 25 to May 1, show the Council supported 80 families at risk of becoming homeless, dealt with more than 2000 calls from residents, dealt with more than a hundred fly-tipping incidents and contacted nearly 2000 of the borough’s most vulnerable residents through Rossendale Connected.

The stats also show the Council made more than 370,000 collections of garden waste, general waste and recycling.

For business, the Council has made sure over £28m worth of grants have been paid out to more than 1200 businesses and has helped more than 216 businesses to receive additional COVID-19 support.

Councillor Alyson Barnes, Leader of the Council, said:

“I am incredibly proud of how the Council has responded to the COVID-19 virus. Coronavirus has had a terrible toll on our borough. But by working with our partners,  we have still managed to deliver essential services such as refuse collection, protected our borough’s most vulnerable and played our part in supporting our local businesses.

“I want to once again give a big thanks to our staff for all their efforts. It’s been tough for us all but our staff have consistently risen to the challenge.”
