The leader of Rossendale Council has praised the borough’s carers and lent her support to the national celebration highlighting their contribution to society.
Carers Week has taken place all this week. It is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the country.
It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
Councillor Alyson Barnes said:
“I want to pay tribute to all those with caring responsibility in our borough – people who look after a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness or who needs extra help as they grow older.
“Society wouldn’t be able to function without carers. They do an incredibly important job and look after some of the most vulnerable people in our borough with little or no reward.
“Carers are facing even more challenging times because of the unprecedented public health crisis so I wanted to put on record that I recognise their contribution and thank them for all that they do.
