The council is pleased that the Government has decided to ease the additional Covid 19 lockdown restrictions recently introduced to Rossendale as part of the wider imposition on parts of East Lancashire, Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire.
The level of new Covid-19 cases in Rossendale has remained consistently low since the recovery from the first surge in the Spring. Working with local businesses, the council stepped up actions engaging local residents and supporting local businesses when these additional lockdown measures were introduced in late July.
Local testing rates for Covid–19 are relatively high and our overall number of new cases has remained consistently very low for a number of weeks.
Leader of the Council Alyson Barnes stated: “We believe the measures taken in Rossendale are working. We have had a positive response from local people and businesses supporting efforts to restrict the transmission of Covid–19. The virus has not gone away and all local people should continue to follow the national guidance including social distancing and wearing a face covering where appropriate.”
The council continues to support its neighbouring councils in Lancashire and Greater Manchester in their on-going efforts to keep the virus under control. Clear plans are in place throughout the county and these actions are having a positive effect. We look forward to other parts of the North West having their additional lockdown restrictions lifted at the appropriate time.
