Another Community Column piece from Civic Pride Rossendale
Surely one of the premier industrial estates in the valley it is often the first, last and indeed lasting impression of Rossendale for its many visitors whether they come by car, van or HGV.
Early in March 2016 the Haslingden branch of Civic Pride supported by a few Rawtenstall members, realising what a despicable state the area was in, decided to do something about it. The first day, a Sunday, saw over 120 bags collected with a huge number of pieces of detritus including traffic cones, For Sale signs, car tyres, rolls of netting, oil drums – the list goes on!
However, despite their valiant efforts there was much left to do and so several more sessions have been held and its mostly completed. In total over 220 bags of rubbish and other rubbish were then taken away by the Council’s Operations department, finally making the area look like somebody cared!
All that’s needed now is for people to stop throwing things out of their vehicles …….
The team also worked on clearing up the Park at the bottom of Commerce St, with staggering results.
