Essential works in Haslingden Cemetery

Rossendale Borough Council have announced that essential works to Haslingden Cemetery will begin in January and is likely to cause some disruption for a number of weeks.

Network Plus will be carrying out the work on behalf of United Utilities to replace a section of failed sewer within the grounds of Haslingden Cemetery. The works are planned to start on Monday 4 January 2021 and will last for approximately 7 weeks.

The works, part of the Network Maintenance Wastewater Contract, will involve the installation of two new deep chambers at either end of the failed section of sewer. Once the chambers are in place a new section of sewer will be installed and connected to the existing sewer network.

One of the chambers is close to the front entrance of the cemetery which will mean the entrance will have to close to vehicles for the duration of the scheme. An alternative entrance will be provided to visitors and the general public to the western boundary of the cemetery from Grane Road, Haslingden.

The Council will be working closely with contractors throughout this period to ensure heavy works cease around service and burial times and to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.

Rossendale Borough Council, Network Plus and United Utilities have asked for the public’s understanding and cooperation while this essential maintenance is carried out.
