Residents invited to share ideas for Victoria Park improvements

Rossendale Borough Council are working alongside Haslingden Community Partnership and Community Interest Company Proffitts – Investing in Communities on a project to improve Victoria Park in Haslingden.

The project is in its early stages and one of the first steps will be to invite interested local residents and park users along to the site to meet the team, highlight any issues they have with the space and discuss their own ideas for enhancing the park.

Tricia Brindle, Community Projects and Partnerships Officer from Rossendale Borough Council told us ‘’ We’re really looking forward to meeting residents and talking with them about Victoria Park. This project is part of the council’s ‘Love Parks’ project which is designed to increase the use of our parks to help improve the mental and physical wellbeing of local people of all ages. This is something that has always been important for our team, but something which has become even more essential following the pandemic. The aim is for our parks to be wonderful assets that enhance the sense of belonging and community for people across their area.’’

After the initial meeting and conversations, the group will use the information they gather to create a masterplan for improvements. The plan will then be shared with local people so they can comment on the proposals and make further suggestions.

Cllr Granville Morris representing Haslingden Community Partnership and the Greenfield Ward of Haslingden said ‘’ We’re excited to support any improvements at Victoria Park. The park has been part of Haslingden life since the mid-19th century, and it’s been an important facility for lots of people during the recent health crisis as it provided us all with somewhere to meet, somewhere for children to play and somewhere to exercise and enjoy being outside. With the help of projects like this one, the park can continue to support the wellbeing of our community for many more years to come.’’

More information about the project, and the date for the first meeting in the park, will be outlined on the website below:
