Rossendale Council are encouraging residents who are struggling to keep their homes warm to check their eligibility for a grant from the Affordable Warmth Fund.

The fund which is managed by Homewise, a registered charity which provides impartial help and advice on all aspects of home improvements, repairs and maintenance, can offer funding for items ranging from boiler replacement to draft proofing measures.

Councillor Steve Hughes lead member for Housing and Customer Services at Rossendale Council said: “This fund has quite a wide criterion and there may be people who assume they’re not eligible, especially if they’re in full time work – but that’s not always the case.

“If your household meets one of the listed vulnerabilities and has a low income, which in this instance is set higher than previous grants, then we strongly urge people to get in touch and find out if they’re eligible.”

Funding is available for

  • Servicing, repairs and replacement boilers and heating systems and associated works, including controls and replacement of unsafe heating appliances
  •  Repairs to and addition of new radiators and radiator reflectors
  • Gas fire services and repairs
  • Draught proofing measures – windows, doors, loft hatches, electrical fittings on walls and ceilings, suspended floorboards, pipework leading outside, ceiling-to-wall joints.
  • Appropriate ventilation measures
  • Standard loft and cavity wall insulation
  • Other measures to keep people warm

Cllr Hughes added: “The cost of living crisis has had a huge impact on the ability to heat homes effectively. Some of the measures people can take are quite simple and relatively low cost but can make big difference to heating bills. Yet many just aren’t able to afford to make those changes or improvements. In a lot of instances this funding can cover that short fall. But residents need to hurry and call Homewise 01254 232249 before the end of March.”
