Rossendale Borough Council has announced the appointment of three Town Centre Regeneration Officers who will lead the implementation of physical improvements to Rossendale’s main town centre areas and public realm

The new officers, who are funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Funding (UKSPF), will be instrumental in facilitating the regeneration of the town centres and promoting the areas as attractive destinations for both residents and visitors.

As key points of contact for local businesses, volunteer and community groups, the officers will be responsible for managing and supporting the successful delivery of town centre projects, facilitating promotional events and activities, and serving as ambassadors for the town. They will also support the existing civic pride groups across Rossendale and act as a key link between the community and council’s services, as well as with the Police to support nuisance and anti-social behaviour issues.

Dawn Lawler, the Town Centre Regeneration Officer for Haslingden said: “When I moved to Rossendale I fell in love with the people and the buildings. “With 25 years in retail, I understand the challenges faced by many high street businesses and I have a passion for people and customer service. I know that experience is going to be really beneficial for me in this role. “I am mostly looking forward to getting to know the local community and help to revive and renew the town centre and bring life back into Haslingden Market.”

Jaid Flatley, who is looking after Rawtenstall, is looking forward to using her knowledge in planning and development and regeneration to help ensure successful outcomes for Rawtenstall and the surrounding area. Jaid said: “I believe my degree and related interests has been a really good basis for this role and I hope local residents will feel the benefit of my actions, not only now but in years to come,”

Lee Halshaw, the Town Centre Regeneration officer for Bacup, has lived in the valley most of his life and was a self-employed joiner who has worked on some big infrastructure projects for the NHS and others. Lee said: “I am really pleased to have been appointed Town Centre Regeneration Officer for Bacup as I love it as a town and think it has so much potential.” “I’m looking forward to working closely with Bacup traders and residents within the centre to help facilitate the relationship and communication between them and the council.”
