This year marks one hundred years since the start of the Battle of the Somme.
As part of the nationwide commemoration in partnership with The Royal British Legion, Veterans in Communities will be opening their centre on Bury Road, Haslingden for an all night vigil. From 7.30pm on Thursday 30th June, until 7.30am on Friday 1st July, the community is invited to join us for all or any part of the night.
During the night there will be showings of a DVD produced by the Imperial War Museum entitled ‘The Battle of the Somme’. In addition a creative writing session will take place from 8pm, an art session from 9pm and refreshments will be available at all times. We will conclude the vigil with a short service of remembrance commencing at 7am.
Northern Primary are also holding a processing from their school to mark the event.
