Heritage Experts Visit the Bacup THI

On Friday 8^th July (2016) the Association of Preservation Trust visited Rossendale for a tour of heritage sites in the areas. Most notably they met with the THI Project Manager Steven Lever and Project Architect Vic Fletcher, from Equilibrium Architects, who gave a tour of the Bacup THI Project to a group of nearly 50 heritage experts and enthusiasts from the Heritage Trust North West.

During the visit Steven and Vic explained the scope of the works being carried out at Pioneer Buildings and at 33 St James Street, and the works planned for the other buildings in St James Street and at the ‘REAL’ building, and also explained how the role each of these buildings played in the historic development of the town centre.

The Trust also visited other sites in Rossendale as part of their annual tour of buildings at risk including Rawtenstall, where they visited a rare, surviving, purpose built loom shop and Ilex Mill, they visited Crawshawbooth, where they visited four remarkable churches and chapels (St John C of E, Rake Foot Methodist, Friends Meeting House and Goodshaw Baptist Church) as well as Endenfield Parish Church.
