Freedom Parade Comes to Haslingden

Rossendale Borough Council is delighted to officially announce that the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment will be parading through Haslingden next week for the Freedom of Rossendale celebrations.

The Freedom Parade will be taking place in Haslingden on Thursday, July 21st, 2016 to mark the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment Freedom of the Borough of Rossendale. The regiment was first granted the Freedom of Haslingden in 1964, this was then extended to Rossendale when we last had a parade in the Borough, in June 2002, in Rawtenstall.

The Mayor of Rossendale and other civic dignitaries will be in attendance for this special event.

We are inviting the public to turn up in support of the event and join in the celebrations for what promises to be a really special occasion for the town.

The parade will start at 12noon from Regent Street, moving down Bury Road to the Junction with Manchester Road, it will then move up Manchester Road, halting momentarily at the war memorial where the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, the Honorary Colonel of the Regiment and the Mayor of Rossendale will inspect the parade and take the salute. The parade will then continue up Manchester Road, turning left down Warner Street, then left onto Helmshore Road and left into St Peter’s Avenue.

It’s a huge honour for a Freedom Parade to be taking place in the Borough and we hope that everyone will participate in the event: from standing waving flags at the parade, to dressing up shop fronts.  Share your photos of how you’re getting involved, and on the day, with us on Facebook or on Twitter using the hashtag #HasParade

In order to facilitate this wonderful even there has to be some rolling road blocks and some road use and parking restrictions put in place. We have planning this event to cause as minimal disruption as possible. Details of road closures and road restrictions can be found in the download at the bottom of the page. Your patience is very much appreciated.
