A council worker is taking on the world’s largest half marathon in aid of charity.
Adrian Smith, principal planning officer for Rossendale Council, we be among the 57,000 runners taking part in the Great North Run on Sunday (September 9).
He is raising money for Open Doors which supports Christians around the world who have been persecuted for their faith, providing vital aid and support to displaced families.

Adrian Smith took on the streets – and the heat – when he completed the Great Manchester Run Half Marathon in aid of charity.
The principal planning officer at Rossendale Council completed the 13.1 miles in 1 hour 50 minutes and 46 seconds – finishing 24th in his age group and 994th overall.

Running man Adrian Smith is gearing up for his latest challenge in aid of two charities which provide vital aid for vulnerable children and families.
The Bacup-based father-of-three has already raised £11,000 by completing a marathon in the Middle East and the legendary Great North Run half marathon from Newcastle to South Shields.

Marathon man, Adrian Smith, is gearing up for his next challenge – The Great North Run.
The Bacup-based father-of-three, returned in May from the Middle East where he ran a marathon in aid of families affected by war and persecution in the region.
Now the 56 year old, has decided to embark on yet another run for charity by taking part in the half marathon from Newcastle to South Shields.
