Haslingden’s Historic Bible Traveling Exhibition

An important piece of Haslingden’s local heritage, Haslingden’s Hidden Bible, will be showcased in a traveling exhibition. The Friends of Haslingden Cemetery (FOHC) Group invites the local community to explore Haslingden’s Hidden Bible, a true historic gem that has recently been restored to its former glory. Visitors can delve into its history and the life of the interesting man who donated the bible, George Berry, Haslingden’s Rag and Bone Man.

Stubbylee Community Greenhouses named Community Champions

Stubbylee Community Greenhouses were named Community Champions at the inaugural South Pennines Park awards, attended by over 100 people.

The awards, hosted by the South Pennines Park – an undesignated national park covering 460 square miles of Lancashire, Yorkshire and Greater Manchester – were held at The Piece Hall in Halifax aimed to celebrate the work that individuals and organisations were doing to look after nature and each other.

I’m delighted and privileged to be the Mayor of Rossendale. Annual council was one of the few times in my life that I have struggled for words. 

I would like to thank Cllrs Jackie Oakes and Barbara Ashworth for proposing and seconding my nomination as Mayor and for Councillor colleagues across the whole chamber for supporting the nomination.

Rossendale Works helps carpenter become self employed

Matthew Dearlove became unemployed when the effects of the pandemic forced his prior business – a pet and animal feed company – to close. He initially wanted to look for a job related to HGV driving and warehousing.

Council statetment on closure of Whitworth Leisure Centre

Rossendale Borough Council (RBC) and Rossendale Leisure Trust (RLT) have announced that Whitworth Leisure Centre will close in July. 

The current cost-of-living crisis has seen councils across the UK face inflationary pressures and rising demand across all services. As higher proportions of council budgets are absorbed by statutory and frontline services, councils’ ability to maintain provision in sport and leisure has come under increasing under pressure.

Rawtenstall Bus Station, located in the heart of Rossendale Valley, has become a hub of activity with the opening of two new businesses, Posh Living and Pizzaman’s.  

Rawtenstall has quickly become a popular destination, thanks to its modern amenities and excellent transport links. The addition of these two new businesses at the station is set to further enhance the appeal.

Local park tennis courts in Rossendale set for renovation

  • Rossendale Borough Council and the LTA agree partnership to breathe new life into local park tennis courts across the borough 
  •  The project will see £103,541 of investment across Rossendale’s public parks 
  • Investment comes from the UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation’s Park Tennis Project, being delivered by the LTA. 

Rossendale Borough Council and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) have announced a partnership to invest in and refurbish public park tennis courts in Rossendale.

Rossendale welcomes three new Town Centre Regeneration Officers

Rossendale Borough Council has announced the appointment of three Town Centre Regeneration Officers who will lead the implementation of physical improvements to Rossendale’s main town centre areas and public realm

The new officers, who are funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Funding (UKSPF), will be instrumental in facilitating the regeneration of the town centres and promoting the areas as attractive destinations for both residents and visitors.

Edenfield pump track opens to the public

Rossendale Borough Council have been working in partnership with the Edenfield Village Residents Association and local Community Interest Company Proffitts – Investing in Communities on a project to create a new pump track in Edenfield. 

The track, designed and constructed by Velosolutions UK, was opened to the public on 30 March and is designed to be both a playground and a training facility for bikers, skateboarders or scooter riders of all skill levels.

Jewel in Rossendale’s crown has bright future

CULTURAL gem The Whitaker Museum and Art Gallery, in Rawtenstall is now putting Rossendale on the national and international map.

Following the completion of a £2.2million extension and renovation of the former Rossendale Museum, the venue now attracts business bookings, major international artists to exhibit in various gallery spaces, is a venue for weddings, a hub for events, community group meetings and much more.
