Rossendale to benefit from LCC’s Levelling Up Fund award

Rossendale will benefit from approximately £8.8m of the successful Levelling Up Fund Round 2 award by government to Lancashire County Council (LCC). A number of schemes will be implemented in Rossendale as part of the range of public transport, walking and cycling projects that are currently at the proposal stage for East Lancashire.

Rossendale residents need photo ID to vote at elections in May

For the first time, residents across the country will need to show photographic ID to vote at this year’s local elections. Rossendale residents are being urged to make sure they are ready to vote on 4 May by checking they have an accepted form of ID.  

Accepted forms of ID include a UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Commonwealth passport; a UK, EEA or Commonwealth drivers’ licence; and some concessionary travel passes, such as an older person’s bus pass or an Oyster 60+ card.

Tributes paid following death of former Councillor and Mayor

Everyone at Rossendale Borough Council would like to pass on their condolences to the family and friends of past Mayor and former Councillor Trevor Unsworth.  

Trevor served as a councillor for 9 years, and was a Labour member for Hareholme Ward, between 2002 – 2011  

Trevor was also Mayor of Rossendale 2010/11 and served on a significant number of committees during his time as a councillor.

Christmas bin collections in Rossendale

Rossendale Council have listed the changes in bin collection dates over the Christmas and New Year period.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We’ve tried to keep disruption to a minimum and in most cases people’s collection days have just moved forward by a day.

“We would remind residents to maybe put their bins out the night before collection so as not to spoil their lie-ins.”

Operation Trident cleans up again

Rossendale Council’s fight against fly tipping and environmental crime across the borough, Operation Trident, has had another successful prosecution. 

The operation coordinates a three-pronged approach of education, enforcement and removal, which aims to hold those responsible to account. 

Over the last 12 months as part of Operation Trident, officers from the Public Protection Unit at Rossendale Council have been asking businesses how they dispose of waste generated by their commercial activities.

Rossendale to receive almost £3m from Shared Prosperity Fund

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has this week announced that Rossendale Council has been successful in its bid to the Shared Prosperity Fund and will be receiving £2,643,864 over the next three years.  

The Fund, which was launched in April 2022, required local authorities to submit a three-year investment plan for their areas.

Rossendale Council marks White Ribbon Day 2022 by sharing commitment to end men’s violence against women

White Ribbon Day is a widely recognised global movement; in the UK, it is spearheaded by White Ribbon UK, the leading charity engaging men and boys to end violence against women and girls.  

Cllr Andrew Walmsley said : “The council are pleased to be working with White Ribbon again this year and taking a lead in highlighting and educating people about this issue.

Household Support Fund to offer support to the most vulnerable in Rossendale

Rossendale Council has announced that residents are now able register for the Household Support Fund. 

Registrations for the fund will close on the 16 December and awards will be made shortly after the closing date. 

The fund is part of a £400,000 package of support for local people and community groups provided by the council.

East Lancashire employment programmes celebrated at awards event

The charity Active Lancashire has won an award for its successful delivery of two East Lancashire employment programmes, Rossendale Works (RW) and Pendle YES Hub (PYH) .

The organisation was successful in winning the Work and Training Social Enterprise of the Year category at the SELNET Enterprise in Society Awards, at the Village Hotel in Blackpool on Friday 4th November.

Council helps ease the financial squeeze

Rossendale Council has announced a £400,000 package of support for local people and community groups.  

 

In the wake of the national cost of living crisis the council is keen to support Rossendale’s most vulnerable residents particularly through the Winter months.

From 17 November the council is launching its ‘Ease the Squeeze’ campaign.
