CHILDREN stepped back in time to the Victorian era as part of the 2040 Vision and Master Plan for Haslingden.
Extraordinary Victorians Tom Powell and Wendy Cage visited pupils at St James CE Primary School in the guise of Mr and Mrs Pemberton, woollen mill owners who were looking to recruit new child workers.
The second work-based training collaboration between Rossendale Works, Lancashire Adult Learning and numerous local businesses has been hailed a success by all those involved.
Rossendale Works – an employability programme run in partnership by Rossendale Council, Active Lancashire and the DWP – this time teamed up with Rawtenstall based We Buy Books to offer the work-based training programme to help and encourage candidates into employment, with support from Lancashire Adult Learning.
Residents of Bury and Rossendale have sent a resounding show of support to a new rail link that could offer journey times as low as 44 minutes from the Valley into central Manchester.
Eighty-six per cent of those who completed the Rossendale Council survey about the Rawtenstall to Manchester travel corridor were supportive of the potential new link that is predicted to reduce car journeys on the M66/A56 by up to three million.
The covid vaccination bus is coming back to Rossendale at the beginning of July making it easier for residents to start or complete their covid vaccinations.
The bus will be at the following locations
Friday 1 July, Haslingden John Street car park
Wednesday 6 July, Bacup Irwell Terrace
Thursday 7 July, Rawtenstall Town Square
Vaccinations will be available between 10.00 -16.00.
The Haslingden Community Partnership group and Rossendale Council are working alongside Community Interest Company Proffitts – Investing in Communities on a project to improve Victoria Park in Haslingden.
The team have created a draft masterplan for the site which includes improvements to the pathways, entrances, boundary walls, fountain, play area, bowling green and the multi use games area too.
Local businesses and community groups in Haslingden are being encouraged to contact Rossendale Council’s economic development team to apply for grant funding to help connect people and communities to the town’s local heritage.
As part of The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Rossendale Council’s Deardengate Big Lamp project – Shining Light on Haslingden’s Heritage, mico-grants are being offered from £50 up to £3000.
A flag raising ceremony will be held in St Mary’s Gardens, Rawtenstall, to support Armed Forces Day.
Armed Forces Day gives people the opportunity to show their support for the men and women of the Armed Forces past and present and the sacrifices they made and continue to make.
The armed forces community is diverse and includes reservists, veterans, cadets, and service families.
Rossendale Council have begun the second phase of the council tax rebate scheme with letters to households that do not pay by direct debit due to be posted out over the next week.
The rebate was announced by the government earlier this year to assist households with the rising costs in energy.
Rossendale Works – a partnership made up of Rossendale Council, Active Lancashire and the DWP – along with Lancashire Adult Learning and local company We Buy Books are to run a pre-employment training programme for a week beginning on the 27 June at We Buy Books, for people struggling to find work.
