Rossendale Borough Council has been shortlisted for the ‘Local Authority Success’ award in the 2023 National Recycling Awards (NRA) for its ‘Check before you chuck’ pilot campaign.
The innovative campaign, which ran for six months, was devised when figures revealed Rossendale had one of the lowest recycling rates in Lancashire.
The scheme saw a 15 per cent increase in the recycling of glass, plastic and tin, paper and cardboard recycling up by 11 per cent and a reduction in general waste of six per cent.

An awards ceremony will celebrate the outstanding work of groups and individuals to tackle loneliness and isolation in the borough.
Nominations are sought for the council’s Living Well Living Better Awards which will be held in June.
Rossendale was one of the local authorities chosen by the Government in 2016 to receive funding to pilot new ways of improving the health and wellbeing of local communities.

On Saturday 8 April 2017, the Mayor of Whitworth, Councillor Madeline De Souza, will be hosting the first ever annual celebration and awards evening.

The Rossendale Business Awards were a huge success this year, demonstrating the strong, expansive business offer the Valley is home to.
The event, run by Valley at Work, marked its 7th year this year, and each time it gets bigger and better. The selection of winners on the evening demonstrated the strength in tourism, creative business and enterprising people in Rossendale.

Inspiring children and young people from Lancashire can now be nominated to receive a recognition award as part of Lancashire Children and Young People’s PROUD Awards.
The awards recognise the successes and contributions made by looked after children and young people, or those who have previously been looked after. A child is ‘looked after’ if they are in the care of the local authority for more than 24 hours.
