Rossendale Council has taken swift action on the racist graffiti that has appeared on buildings in Bacup.
Our Street Cleansing Team was out early on Monday morning as it was reported by various shocked members of the community, to begin the clear up.
Due to the nature of the paint used we’ve worked with local company Gumblasters to remove it, and whilst the lengthy work was taking place we took proactive action to paint over the graffiti as it awaited cleaning so that the offensive content was not visible.
The Council support the Police in taking strong action against racist behaviour and the defacing of public and private property and it will not be tolerated.
CCTV is in operation in the area and the Police are investigating this incident.
Local PCSO Chris Hamer said;
“This particular incident is thankfully something of a rarity in Bacup. We received numerous calls from local residents voicing their disgust and upset at what was written. From this response, it is obvious the words were not representative of the majority of local people but of a narrow minded minority.
We will not tolerate this type of behaviour within our communities and we will deal with offenders robustly.
I would like to pay particular thanks to Rossendale Borough Council who promptly dealt with the graffiti to prevent further distress to the public given it was not directly their responsibility to clean up.”
Should anyone have information which could help the Police with their investigation, we appeal to them to call them on 101 quoting incident reference LC-20160416-0359
