Following on from Lancashire County Council’s announcement about the completion of the Bacup roadworks being delayed, the Townscape Heritage Initiative Board has released this statement.
Acting chair Councillor Jackie Oakes said:
“Lancashire County Council have told us the expected completion of highways improvements as part of the Bacup Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) will be delayed.
This is obviously very disappointing and we will be seeking assurances that there will be no further delays.
LCC have advised us the delay has been caused by unexpected amounts of concrete found underground which was not picked up by the geotechnical survey carried out before the start of the works.
Despite the delay, the overall project is still on track to be finished by December and once completed, we believe residents and businesses of Bacup will pleased to see the difference the investment has made to the town.
We also support Lancashire County Council’s plea to drivers to be mindful where they park and we are pleased they will be undertaking frequent parking enforcement. However, we will keep track on any further issues and we will, of course, raise them with county. It is county’s responsibility to act on them quickly in the most appropriate way.”
