As the prime minister announced last week, certain designated venues will have a legal duty to ask all customers and visitors to provide contact details, and to display an official NHS QR code poster so that customers and visitors can check into a venue using their NHS Covid-19 app. This applies to all beauty and close contact services, including hairdressers and barbers, nail bars, spas and tanning salons.
Customer logs will be mandatory from Friday 18th September.
QR codes will be mandatory from Thursday 24th September, when the app launches.
If customers choose to check-in using the QR code, then the business doesn’t also need to take the name or contact details of any member of the group.
QR posters are unique to each venue – businesses can download posters for each of their premises here. We would encourage all businesses to start downloading and printing posters now so that they are ready for when the app launches next week.
We need businesses and venues across our borough who will require QR code posters, to use the time between now and that launch date to get prepared. These posters should be prominently displayed at all entrances to your business so visitors and customers can start checking in safely and securely to those settings from 24th September.
The more businesses that participate and the more people who use the app, the better it will work – and it will help us get ahead of the virus, preventing a second wave, further local lockdowns, and further disruption to the economy.
