Planning enforcement is a vitally important area of work for the Council.
Issues are dealt with in the first instance by education and negotiation, however direct action can and will be taken to remove unlawful development and prosecute offenders when deemed necessary, as in this recent case.

People are being urged to get permission before felling trees on their land, after prosecutions were brought by Rossendale Council against two men for removing trees with a value of around £22,000.
Land owner Matthew Cook appeared at Burnley Magistrates Court on Thursday, February 7 and pleaded guilty to felling 6 trees in a Cloughfold conservation area in August 2018.

A business owner has been ordered to pay £405 following a row over shop shutters.
Syeda Monzu Uddin, owner of Haslingden Food Store, appeared at Burnley Magistrates Court charged with non-compliance with an Enforcement Notice and was fined £200 with costs of £175 and a victim surcharge of £30.
Action was taken by Rossendale Council in August to remove roller shutters from the Haslingden Food Store after the owner did not comply with an order to take the shutters down.

A developer’s prompt action in complying with an enforcement notice has been welcomed by Rossendale Council.
In November, the Council issued a notice to Heron Homes which is converting a former church in Edenfield to apartments.
A condition of the planning application being approved was for the developer to retain the stained glass windows at the front of the church.

The protection and care of this site falls to the current owners who we are communicating with. It has had multiple owners all of which have had various intentions for it however, despite repeated suggestions and requests to make it more secure, little has been done leading to the site continuing to be the target of vandalism.

Rossendale Council has unveiled its latest draft of its 15 year local plan which will be going out to consultation later this summer before being submitted to the Government for public examination by an independent Inspector.
The government target for the number of houses to be built in the borough has been reduced.

Rossendale Council has welcomed an application from Edenfield residents to establish a Neighbourhood Forum.
Last week, a group of residents formally applied to the Council to start the process.

Responding to the news, Councillor Christine Lamb, whose portfolio oversees planning, said:
