Rossendale Council have listed the changes in bin collection dates over the Christmas and New Year period.
A spokesperson for the council said: “We’ve tried to keep disruption to a minimum and in most cases people’s collection days have just moved forward by a day.
“We would remind residents to maybe put their bins out the night before collection so as not to spoil their lie-ins.”
The council who has been running a pilot recycling scheme in four areas across the borough, is also keen to encourage residents to recycle as much as possible and to ‘Check Before You Chuck’.
“There is a lot of extra rubbish at Christmas, all the wrapping paper and the boxes toys and gifts come in and possibly extra bottles.
“Please check before you just chuck it in the general waste bin as a lot can and should be recycled. If you’re unsure what we can and cannot be recycled go to https://bit.ly/CheckB4YouChuck for more information.
“Most wrapping paper can be recycled apart from the foil or metalic ones. A good test to see if it can be recycled is the scrunch test. If you can scrunch the paper into a ball and it keeps its shape it can be recycled. If it springs back and doesn’t stay as a ball it can’t be recycled and you should chuck it in the general waste bin.”
The council will also be offering a Christmas tree collection service between 9 –28 January. Trees for collection must be real not artificial trees and should be free from ornaments and lights. Trees collected will be shredded and the organic material recycled. To arrange collection, go to https://bit.ly/rbcxmastree
