Across the valley, volunteers from all sectors of the community give up their own time to help others either directly or indirectly.
On Saturday 21st October, from 11am to 3pm Civic Pride will be hosting a day of celebration at Kay Street Baptist Church and are inviting other local voluntary groups to join them to thank volunteers’ past and present and encourage others to join them.

The Great British Spring event saw lots of volunteers come out to help clean up their local community
Over 250 bags of litter were collected up over the weekend for the Council to remove following on from community clean up events across the Valley.
Rossendale Council’s Chief Executive Stuart Sugarman and Head of Operations Paul McHenry joined Cllr Lamb and Civic Pride Members for litter collecting in Newchurch on Friday.

Rossendale Borough Council, together with Civic Pride groups, are calling on the community to step up and be a local hero as part of the national Great British Spring Clean Event to celebrate where we live.

Civic Pride have collected another award this month, this time in the Royal Horticultural Society’s ‘Its Your Neighbourhood’ competition.
Civic Pride entered The Old Fold Garden (opposite Mr Fitzpatrick’s Temperance Bar) and won a Level 4 Award for Thriving, a mere one point off Outstanding!
RHS Judge Stephen Lowe said;
“It was great to see how this area had been transformed…from a foreboding, litter strewn, overgrown forgotten corner, into a superb blast of colour which will lit the spirits of all who sit and enjoy the results of their hard work.”

The Mayor and Mayoress of Rossendale, Councillor Granville Morris and Mrs Susan Morris, visited Molly Barnes, Haslingden, this week to wish her a very Happy Birthday.
This year Molly is celebrating a very special birthday as she turned 100 years old on Wednesday 16th November, and her niece Pat Hutchinson arranged a visit from the Mayor and Mayoress as part of the celebrations.

Civic Pride rally Rossendale into becmoing litter free.
Walk down Bacup Road in Rawtenstall early on Sunday morning and you’ll doubtless see plenty of fast food litter, cans, bottles and cigarette ends strewn across the pavements. Take Away corner is a reminder of what most of Rossendale used to look like before Civic Pride and other volunteers got to grips with the problem.

On Friday 28th October at the Britain in Bloom Award Ceremony , Civic Pride were finally made aware of how much the Royal Horticultural Society were prepared to recognise the dedication, inspiration and sheer hard graft shown by all their hardworking volunteers and supporters.
Eight members of Civic Pride travelled to Southport to learn their fate and this is how their day went…
After coffee we took our places at the lunch table whilst winners of specific competitions were announced – including Best Newcomer, Civic Pride Rawtenstall!

Civic Pride have again been nominated for the Queens Award for Voluntary Service after missing out last year.
Civic Pride were nominated for this prestigious award last year in recognition of our achievements in helping to transform our valley for all to enjoy, residents and visitors alike. It was proposed by Cllr Alyson Barnes, Leader of the Council and supported by Jake Berry MP.

If you were in Rawtenstall last Thursday morning (July 21st) you may have seen a group of individuals in Civic Pride hi-vis jackets walking around admiring the gardens. What was remarkable was that they weren’t weeding, planting, digging, pruning, sweeping up or picking litter which is what they’ve been doing day after day, in all weathers for many weeks during the lead up to Britain in Bloom!
