Rossendale Forest ask for volunteers for final planting sessions

Rossendale Council are asking for volunteers for the last push to plant the remaining 1000 trees of the Rossendale Forest initiative. 

Rossendale Forest, the council’s tree planting initiative to plant a tree for every child in the borough over the next three years- that’s 16,000 trees – has successfully planted more than 6,000 trees since the start of the year.

Council declares climate emergency

Rossendale Council has declared a climate emergency as councillors warn urgent action is needed to the tackle the crisis.

At last night’s meeting of Council, councillors agreed a motion which commits the Council to become carbon neutral by 2030.

The motion, proposed and seconded by Councillor Steve Hughes and Councillor Janice Johnson respectively, also commits the Council to set a 100 per cent clean energy target, write to government to urge that it brings forward more funding and devolved powers to help the Council meet its target and create a new climate change member champion.
