Rossendale Council Grants 2017/18 and 2018/19 Application Process Opens

Following Cabinet approval in November, Rossendale Borough Council has opened the application process for Rossendale Council Grants.  

Cllr Alyson Barnes, Leader of the Council said;

“We recognise that these are difficult times for many people and there are some key challenges for Rossendale residents.  Although the Council still has to make savings, we have made £62,000 available each year for the next 2 years for the provision of targeted grants for services to support financial inclusion in Rossendale, and for small community grants through the Neighbourhood Forums.”

Another Award for Civic Pride

Civic Pride have collected another award this month, this time in the Royal Horticultural Society’s ‘Its Your Neighbourhood’ competition.

Civic Pride entered The Old Fold Garden (opposite Mr Fitzpatrick’s Temperance Bar) and won a Level 4 Award for Thriving, a mere one point off Outstanding!

RHS Judge Stephen Lowe said;

“It was great to see how this area had been transformed…from a foreboding, litter strewn, overgrown forgotten corner, into a superb blast of colour which will lit the spirits of all who sit and enjoy the results of their hard work.”

Mayor Attends 100th Birthday Celebrations

The Mayor and Mayoress of Rossendale, Councillor Granville Morris and Mrs Susan Morris, visited Molly Barnes, Haslingden, this week to wish her a very Happy Birthday.

This year Molly is celebrating a very special birthday as she turned 100 years old on Wednesday 16th November, and her niece Pat Hutchinson arranged a visit from the Mayor and Mayoress as part of the celebrations.

Community Column: Where Has All the Litter Gone?

Civic Pride rally Rossendale into becmoing litter free.

Walk down Bacup Road in Rawtenstall early on Sunday morning and you’ll doubtless see plenty of fast food litter, cans, bottles and cigarette ends strewn across the pavements. Take Away corner is a reminder of what most of Rossendale used to look like before Civic Pride and other volunteers got to grips with the problem.

Community Column: Water Band’s 150th Birthday

2016 is Water Band’s 150th year. To celebrate we’re having ‘A Bit Of A Do’ at the bandroom on Saturday 12th November between 3pm and 7.30pm and we would like to invite you along to help us mark this momentous occasion.

We are inviting past players and social members of the band, relatives of current and past players, friends and neighbours of the band, organisers who have booked the band this year, and anyone with an interest in Water Band and its aims.

Three Rossendale Projects Up for Aviva Community Fund Prize

Three Rossendale projects are in with a chance of getting the finals of the Aviva Community Fund.

The Aviva Community Fund offers the chance for local community projects to win funding for their community project. It will finance over 800 projects across four different fund levels and six categories, spreading the awards to communities throughout the UK.

Community Column: Queen’s Award Nomination for Civic Pride

Civic Pride were nominated for this prestigious award last year in recognition of our achievements in helping to transform our valley for all to enjoy, residents and visitors alike. It was proposed by Cllr Alyson Barnes, Leader of the Council and supported by Jake Berry MP.

Rossendale Secures New Community Specialist Paramedic

Following the work of Rossendale Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Task and Finish Group on the North West Ambulance service the Council is delighted to announce a new Community Specialist Paramedic role for Rossendale.

Richard Peters assumes the role as the new Community Specialist Paramedic (CSP) for the Rossendale area.

Richard joined the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust as a trainee technician in 1991 and qualified as a Paramedic in 1993.

Grant Funding Available to Support to Local Groups

The latest round of the Rossendale Community Fund has been launched and local organisations are invited to apply for a grant from the Fund before the deadline of 14 October.  

The Rossendale Community Fund was created by Rossendale Borough Council in partnership with the Community Foundation for Lancashire to offer grants to support projects that help families, children and young people in Rossendale engage in community activities and learning.
