Sport England announce community emergency fund

Organisations that deliver or enable sport or physical activity in Rossendale can apply to a new fund set up by Sport England in response to the coronavirus emergency.

The £20m Community Emergency Fund is open for bids from local sports, voluntary and community organisations including small charitable trusts for grants between £300 and £10,000.

Fund-raising drive launched as hundreds of  residents are helped thanks to the hub

Rossendale Connected, a new community hub to help Rossendale residents during coronavirus, has taken more than 400 calls since it launched.

The hub, which runs seven days a week, was set-up to  support the communities, families and individuals facing tough times because of the coronavirus outbreak and the stepping up of social distancing and isolation measures.

First business payments out today for Rossendale firms

Rossendale Borough Council has started to send out Government grant payments to local businesses affected by the coronavirus.

Following the package of support announced by the Government for those affected by the restrictions and closures put in place in response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Council contacted businesses to promote access to the grant, and received the funds from Government on Wednesday, 1st April in order to pay the grant.

Council staff continue to go above and beyond the call of duty to keep providing essential services, support our most vulnerable residents and support our businesses as much as we can through these extremely difficult times for us all.

It also means we have to make tough but necessary decisions.

Sadly, we have had to make the decision, in line with government advice and guidance, and in line with what other councils have done, to close our cemeteries except to funerals.

Coronavirus scam warnings

People are being warned about a series of scams related to the coronavirus.

Rossendale Council are backing The Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI)’s warnings issued after reports that scammers are targeted people both in person and through technology and through price rises in shops throughout the country.

One scam involves fake healthcare workers claiming to be offering ?home-testing?

Coronavirus: Update from the leader and chief executive [March 25]

This week, the Government announced further measures to try and curb the spread of coronavirus.

This is an extremely worrying time for everyone in the borough.  But it is important we follow the government’s advice and guidance.

The measures to increase social distancing include:

·       Shopping for basic necessities

  • One form of exercise a day
  • Medical need
  • To care for a vulnerable person
  • Travelling to work only when absolutely necessary.

NoWcard pass information

Anyone with a NoWcard pass in Lancashire, Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool can use it for free travel before 9.30am in the morning from Monday 23 March in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The restriction on using concessionary travel passes during the morning peak has been lifted to allow pass holders to take advantage of those shops that are now dedicating the first hour of shopping to older and vulnerable people.
