Rossendale Council has expressed its disappointment following news that its Future High Street bid for Bacup has not been successful.
The Council put in a bid to the fund in March following the development of an exciting new vision for the future of the town centre.
The town has already benefited massively from £2m investment from the Townscape Heritage Initiative fund.
However, the town was not on the list published earlier today.
Councillor Alyson Barnes, Leader of the Council, said :
“I am bitterly disappointed about this news especially as it seemed to be announced we were successful on national radio earlier in the day.
“I believe we had put forward a very strong bid. We have a clear vision, created with residents and businesses, for how we want Bacup to develop. We want the town to be a place where people will want to go, to live, work or just explore; a place confident about its location, heritage and historic legacy.
“Our job is now to look for other funding opportunities to bring in the resources we need to meet the challenges the town faces and build on the success of the THI.”
