Council Leader speaks out against illegal work

Rossendale Council Leader, Alyson Barnes, has expressed her deep dismay at a landowner continuing with work in a local village, despite being issued with a Temporary Stop Notice.

The Council is now taking further enforcement action to stop works at Kippax Factory in Goodshawfold.

Diggers moved onto the site earlier this month to start the development, which has caused much consternation among local residents. The Council had spoken with the owner several times and issued the Temporary Stop Notice, whilst it determined whether the works had the correct planning permissions.

However the works have continued and the Council has been left with no choice but to take legal action.

Councillor Barnes said:

The landowner has completely ignored us in this regard which I find outrageous. We take the concerns of local residents very seriously, as well as the flagrant flouting of the correct planning procedures, and so we have been left with no option but to take further enforcement action. We are determined to clamp down on this sort of thing.
